| Fishing off of a dimley lit dock at Boca Grande one night last year. I was throwin a Bomber Long A, and working it hard parallel to the dock, when this linesides nailed it. He went immediately under the dock, and on his first jump, slammed his head into the boards underneath. He hit so hard, that he knocked himself unconscious. As he just laid there on his side, I scambled to get to him. I laid down on the dock and stretched my arm as far as I could, but before I could get a hand on him, he regained consciousness and headed back out for open water, stripping line and tail walkinking like it was going out of style. The only problem was, now I was laying down on the dock trying to fight this fish under the bottom railing. When I was finally able to get back to my feet and work my rod back up to the top rail, the fish had turned back at me and again went under the dock. This time he got the line wrapped around a big rusty bolt sticking out of one of the pilings. I again scambled to him, laid down on the dock, and this time was able to reach under and grab him by his bottom jaw, untangle the line from around the bolt and hoist him up onto the dock. (Rough on an old man). I have to give a lot of the credit to Berkley Big Game for this one. I feel fortunate that the line didn't break on that rusty bolt, and those Bomber Long A's aint cheap. Footnote: I had some serious dock rash and sore ribs the next day. But that just made that Snook taste that much better..........I'm just sayin'. |
