It was a fair Febuary day when a friend of my boyfriends showed around noon and asked if we would like to go fishing. We went to a private pond of a neighbors and I decided to fish on the opposite side from the guys because of their constant instruction and criticism of my lure choice, casting style, retrieve speed etc. etc. etc. I cast out and reeled back into the corner as my lure got closer to the bank I stopped to allow my lure to float to the top before crossing a moss bed to avoid being hung up my lure seemed to be snagged on something and I gave a little pull in hopes to release it when to my surprise and delight I saw the side of this fish as it rolled to the top I reeled her in and at first wondered what kind of fish it was, I had never seen a bass of this size and at first thought it was possibly a carp or something. I was still so excited and without thinking began to lift it from the waters edge and just as the fish came out of the water my line broke and I went from excited sqealing to a loan moan, I lunged forward and grabbed on and pulled her from the water. I was ecstatic. The guys gave me no more than a small glance. I began to run around the pond back to where they were. I had to climb quite a steep hill to get to their location and with both my hands full with the fish I slipped and fish and I both thudded against the ground and rolled down the hill. I picked up the fish as well as myself and finally got to the men. They gave me no more attention or praise than if I would of caught a 4 oz. bluegill. I asked for a scale to weigh her, my boyfriend's had somehow been brokent the day before and his friend just seemed to misplace his. They told me to release the fish before I sqeezed anymore life out of it. I shook my head in protest and said I wanted to take home. They both insisted I release her but I wanted at least a photo. Our friend said he had a camera and would take a photo for me. This is it. I was almost in tears from disappointment not to get to show off my catch to my family in person. My lure was removed from her mouth and I handed her over to my bf to release I did not have the heart. My bf later admitted he showed little interest because he was jealous and felt bad he had made me release her out of spite. My dad told me when he saw the photo I should of had it mounted and another friend said I should of threw the men back and kept the fish. At least I have the photo and here it is. |
