It was the first spring we lived on Chickamauga Lake, TN (Bass Bay) I was teaching my daughter (Janelle) how to fish, when she caught this 'monster'. I was on the dock with her fishing the other end. When she started to get excited. She called out to me ' Daddy, Daddy, I think I have a bite' Sure enough she did. I coached her thru the process of setting the hook & reeling one in. When the bobber got to the end of the rod, she couldn't reel it in any farther. She started to freakout, screaming at me that her fish was going to get away. I assured her that it wouldn't if she just lifted the fish up on the dock. I told he ' If I help you get it in, she wouldn't be catching it ALL by herself.' after a little coaxing, she hoisted it on the dock. She had a grin from ear to ear. She was sooo proud of catching it all by herself. She was sqealing with excitment. We called her mom down to view her monster fish. I took a couple photos and released it. As it swam away, I remember her saying ' Bye-Bye Fishy, come and see me again.' I almost cried! Janelle is all grown up now(23) but that day on the dock is etched in my memory like it was yesterday. |
