A couple of years ago, I went on a “Cast & Blast”, combo Fishing & Hunting trip on Flat Top Mt, TN. I had hunted the early morning in search for a long beard Tom. With not much success. I knew of an old farm pond,(Screamin' Frog) that was a perfect place to have a bite of lunch, FISH & listen for GOBBLERS!
I baited my Texas rigged hook with a GULP Night Crawler, Pumkin' green. Casted it out as far as I could & sat down with my, shotgun, rod & sandwich,.ready for anything. I took ONE bite, when my rod lunged forward & headed in the pond. Dropping everything, I dove just as the reel was going out of site. Jumped up & set the hook!
The rod doubled over, line screamed off the reel. My heart skipped a beat when the bass jumped & I saw how big it was! It sounded like a cider block hitting the water! HOLY COW! It pulled like a freight train as it headed for a submerged tree. I scooted to the right & held my rod tip high, as it throbbed wildly!. It jumped five or six times before I started to wear down.
I didn't have a net & had to lip it at the waters edge. I could put my WHOLE fist in it's mouth.. I set my camera on my cooler for a couple of quick photos & measurement, 27” before releasing it. I didn't get a turkey that day, but that bass was just as fun! Take Care, Tight Lines & FISH ON!
